Starting July 1, 2023 people in North Carolina will no longer be able to access abortion after the 12th week of pregnancy, and they will be forced to endure medically unnecessary restrictions that make it harder to get the health care they need even before 12 weeks. This is the impact of Senate Bill 20, a poorly drafted bill rammed through the legislature in less than 72hrs.
In addition to banning abortion after the 12th week of pregnancy, SB20 adds new restrictions on abortion, including:
- Requires an in-person “consent” appointment 72hrs BEFORE the appointment where the patient will actually receive abortion care.
- Forces patients to listen to state-mandated, non-scientific, anti-abortion counseling and creates more paperwork for the patient to sign.
- It adds mountains of medically unnecessary paperwork for the doctor to complete, creating more admin “busy” work.
Our clinics in Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh, NC remain open and ready to provide medication and procedural abortion care. If patients are past the 12-week ban, we will refer patients to clinics that can provide that care. Call 800-298-8874 or visit https://www.awomanschoiceinc.com/appointment to request an appointment.
